Edge of Reality is an independent cross platform studio based in Austin, Texas. We are working on Loadout, a F2P multiplayer shooter based on extensive weapon customization, and on an unannounced project with a major publisher.
History and Growth
Edge of Reality, founded in 1998, got its modest start with N64 ports. The ports we have done include Monster Truck Madness N64, Tony Hawk ProSkater 1, 2 & 3 N64, and Spiderman N64. These ports capitalized the studio and allowed us to grow our development capability to take on full game development. We have developed a number of cross platform titles for the PS2, Xbox & GameCube including The Sims, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, DreamWork's Shark Tale, and DreamWork’s Over The Hedge. Most recently, we have developed Pitfall: The Big Adventure for the Wii, and The Incredible Hulk for the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, and PC, and Dragon Age: Origins for PS3 and 360, and The Sims 3 for PS3 and 360. Publishers we have successfully worked with include EA, Activision, Sega, and Take Two.
We have been fortunate enough to be part of multiple hit commercial titles. As a result, the studio has a stable future. Edge of Reality is completely independent. As such, we are free to work with any publisher, on any platform.
The studio is comprised of a good blend of talent across multiple levels of experience. There are no ego battles at Edge of Reality. Everyone works hard together for the common purpose of making the best games possible. Our tools and engine are proprietary and thus, highly customizable. We have comprehensive Maya based world-building tools that enable the designer and artist to run with their vision. It is a proprietary toolset that gives simple access to sophisticated systems like AI, cinemas, and scenario design. This system removes the barriers between the designer and the implementation of their goals.
The studio has shipped 15 games over 15 years. The commercial success of these games has provided long-term stability for the company. The chemistry of the studio is very positive. The studio is located in the hill country with a beautiful view of the Austin Greenbelt's lush green countryside, just 30 minutes from downtown Austin.
As Edge of Reality has grown, so too has the scope of its projects. Through the years, we have been fortunate enough to create relationships with the most successful publishers in the world. The quality of our games is the single most important thing to us. To maintain this vision and to maintain the success of the studio, we have limited ourselves to no more than two games in development at any time. We feel that anything more than that would jeopardize our focus, and therefore the quality of our studio.
