Edge of Reality™, Ltd. is an independent entertainment software developer focused on next generation consoles, and is currently working on an original action title.



History and Growth

Founded in 1998, Edge of Reality™ got its start by specializing in N64 games. These games include Monster Truck Madness N64, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1, 2, & 3 N64, and Spiderman N64. In 2001, Edge of Reality began releasing cross-platform games for the PS2, Xbox and GameCube. These games include The Sims, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, DreamWorks' Shark Tale, and DreamWorks' Over the Hedge. Edge of Reality™ currently has two teams working on two different games for Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PS3. One team is working on a licensed franchise, The Incredible Hulk; the other is making Edge of Reality's first fully original game, Cipher Complex.

Edge of Reality™ has been fortunate enough to be part of multiple hit commercial titles. As a result, the studio has a stable future. Edge of Reality™ is completely independent. As such, they are free to work with any publisher, on any platform.


The Studio

The vast majority of the studio is comprised of highly skilled veteran talent. There are no ego battles at Edge of Reality™. Everyone works hard together for the common purpose of making the best games possible. The tools and engine are proprietary and thus, highly customizable. They have comprehensive Maya based world-building tools that enable the designer and artist to run with their vision. It is a proprietary toolset that gives simple access to sophisticated systems like AI, cinemas, and scenario design. This system removes the barriers between the designer and the implementation of their goals.

The studio has shipped 9 games over 8 years. The commercial success of these games has provided long-term stability for the company. The chemistry of the studio is very positive. The studio is located in the hill country with a beautiful view of the Austin Greenbelt's lush green countryside, just 30 minutes from downtown Austin.

Technology

The studio currently has multiple high profile next generation projects in development. The projects benefit not only from our people, but also from common resources already created and shared across all games.

We have created a state-of-the-art, cross-platform engine, which is the heart of all our games. Because the engine is created and supported in-house, we know it inside and out. We can customize it for a particular game, add features, fix problems, and prototype far more efficiently than would be possible with any off-the-shelf engine. Our engine is tightly integrated into our production pipeline, which enables us to test changes interactively. We currently support the Sony PlayStation®2, Sony PlayStation®3, Microsoft Xbox™, Microsoft Xbox 360™, Nintendo Wii™, Nintendo GameCube™, and the PC.

The Company

As Edge of Reality™ has grown, so too has the scope of its projects. Through the years, we have been fortunate enough to create relationships with the most successful publishers in the world.

The quality of our games is the single most important thing to us. To maintain this vision and to maintain the success of the studio, we have limited ourselves to no more than two games in development at any time. We feel that anything more than that would jeopardize our focus, and therefore the quality of our studio.
